Investigating Research Hotspots and Publication Trends of Spinal Stenosis: A Bibliometric Analysis During 2000–2018

Spinal stenosis is a common disease affecting the elderly that present in various forms. Its high incidence forces researchers to pay more attention and offer countermeasures. We used Web of Science Core collection PubMed database obtain 5,606 scientific studies concerning spinal stenosis, number publications maintained roughly increasing trend from 108 2000 512 2018, only declining 2011. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using online software CiteSpace Bibliographic Item Co-Occurrence Matrix Builder (BICOMB). The United States maintains academic leadership this field. journal SPINE most authoritative, with 695 articles an average 12.73 citations. exported major MeSH terms were further biclustered gCLUTO according co-word reveal research hotspots, including etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestation, conservative treatment, operative indication, internal implantation, postoperative complications. After combination, main topics focused on pathogenesis surgical treatment. Narrowing causes flavum ligamentum hypertrophy, posterior longitudinal ligament ossification widely accepted. Additionally, minimally invasive surgery implantation fixation are valid clinic. Refining pathological classification optimizing methods instrument properties will be important future directions for stenosis.
